*Upon further thought, I have removed the projects that were most likely to cause issues with the design studios who created them.
It has been brought to my attention that my portfolio is misleading. I have remedied that issue, but wanted to give it more explanation here.
When I went about designing all the "key art" for my portfolio I was faced with using art and images that were already in existence. My portfolio did not indicate where these items were being used.
Today I sent my resume and portfolio over to my numero uno "I have to work here" design studio and I was thrilled to see their number pop up on my cell phone caller ID shortly after my email had been sent. Unfortunately the call went differently than I had expected. You see, the Creative Director I spoke with had noticed his own design integrated into my work. It was an unfortunate oversight on my part. My verbiage at the bottom of each portfolio image was not clear in exactly what part of the one sheets I actually created, and which were taken from previously available images. He was kind enough to explain it all to me, and suggest the changes that needed to be made, and I spent my afternoon doing just that.
For example: the 2 Spider-Man posters. I created the city backgrounds, I gave them a gritty, dirty look, and I re-created the title treatments based on the Spider-Man logo and title from previous movie releases. The image of Spidey himself had been created by the design studio BLT. My portfolio explanation simply said "Key Art Design." Using that verbiage, one would assume I created everything on the page.
On paper, it looks like I am saying the wrong thing. In person, if I was asked, I would explain what had been done. Unfortunately the on paper part is the first impression. My "new" portfolio explains exactly what I did on each project so that there is no longer any confusion on what is "mine" and what is "theirs."
Let's hope this oversight did not cost me all future key art design jobs. I guess I know why I wasn't getting any calls.

Just a Quick Note
As you may have noticed, I did a little bit of tweaking on the blog page. My portfolio site got a little changeroo too. New colors on both sites and on the main site I made some changes to the menu and added my LinkedIn profile to the mix.
The main change on here is the enabling of all comments. If you want to post a comment here it is as simple as clicking "comment." No logging in or having an account or any of that business. You can even be anonymous. Don't be shy. Or annoyed. It's all good now!
l also enabled the sharing function, finally, so feel free to share with people who might be interested!
More designs are coming soon. Keep checking back!
Thanks :)

Posters Plural
This week's "one per week" goal ended up being 4 in total. While putting together individual character posters for Harry Potter Part 2 I also found a good image for a "final" poster look with the billing block included. Enjoy more Harry Potter goodness.
I promise there will be more varied posters soon!
Images used in this project were created / provided by the studio. The character images are from publicity stills. The title treatment was created by the studio. I created the backgrounds and designed the layouts / concepts.

Week 2
The start of week 2 of 2011 and I have kept up with my constantly creative mode goal.
Today I learned a little about creating Apple device icons. When a developer does their thing and creates an app it is only natural that they would need icons for it right?
Yep. I'll keep things updated here once I know if the icons are going to be used for sure. It's quite intriguing how many people need the use of a graphic designer...good thing I chose this profession. Or, it chose me I s'pose!
My 1 poster per week goal will be met this week, though I am not sure my writing goal will be met. I'm already a week behind. Check back by the end of the week for more!

Well.
No new poster but I was creative most of the week.
For those of you who do not know, I am helping keep a teen-oriented online entertainment magazine updated. It is sometimes a daily job and sometimes not, depending on how often the information flows to me. Yesterday I spent the entire day updating.
Check it out here enterteenmentnews.com
We're gearing up to launch a whole new site as well. EnFocus Entertainment will most likely be launching in March. It will hold all the entertainment news and goodies that we cannot report on EnterTeenment because of content not suitable for teens. When the site is up and ready I will share it with you guys here.
Have a great weekend!

Festival Bound
My friends who made the fabulously fun and geniously funny "Gleeclipse" - a short film about teen-aged monsters living in a "Twilight" world - are headed to Boulder City, Nevada where the film is playing at the Dam Film Festival. Which means the one-sheet I created for them will be hanging all over the city. How dam cool is that. (OK that was bad!)
Check out the movie at Gleeclipse.com and give them some love. Here's the poster that will be on display in Nevada in the next couple of weeks...

Share this with your Twitter and Facebook friends!

It's Been a While
Neglected. Sorry if you are feeling it. I am hoping to be a bit more on the ball with blogging this year. No promises though.
Let's set a goal to be creative in 2011. And I mean in every way possible. Creative design. Creative writing. Creative living.
In my "resolutions I can live with" list for 2011 I laid out a plan to create a poster per week and write a story every two weeks. I think that is a doable goal.
So by this time next week a new piece of key art should be posted on my Web site and I will post it here as well.
Thanks for visiting. Check back soon!
